Introduction to Research Methods

Module Convenor:  Heidi Winklhofer

Module Content:
Part 1: Introduction Quantitative Analysis (compulsory) Survey design and measurement, Introduction to statistics; hypothesis testing, t-tests, ANOVA, Regression Analysis and Factor Analysis. Part 2: Introduction Qualitative Analysis (compulsory). This part of the module will be concerned with epistemological issues as well as the collection and analysis of qualitative data.

Module Aims:
To instil familiarity with and understanding of key techniques of quantitative and qualitative analysis. To improve accessibility of research material such as journal articles. To provide basic skills in support of both other modules taught on the MA Programme and dissertation research involving quantitative and qualitative analysis

Module Assessment:
1.5 hour Examination (50%); Individual Coursework (3,000 words) (50%)
