EducationJump to undergraduate courses

Building on a long history of providing flexible, part-time courses, the School of Education provides opportunities for you to seek professional development, personal enrichment and new skills in an academically challenging environment. We offer a small-group approach to teaching and learning and employ continuous assessment via coursework rather than examinations. We welcome applications from mature students without formal qualifications and our part-time courses are structured to allow compatibility with your work and family commitments.

How will I study?

The programmes we offer differ from other university undergraduate courses in the way they are delivered, assessed and studied. Active discussion plays an important part in small-group classroom sessions. Instead of exams, all work is continually assessed using a variety of methods including essays, presentations, case studies and reflective journals.

The diverse backgrounds of our students add value to our sessions, and to optimise this experience, full-time and part-time students study together. The full-time option allows you to complete your course within three years, while the part-time route can take between four and six years, allowing you to continue in employment if you wish.

As a student in the School of Education you will have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary activities, alongside students from other courses within the School and as part of the Nottingham Advantage Award scheme. You may also wish to apply for temporary or vacation employment via our recruitment agency Unitemps, which may assist with your financial support during your study.

What courses do we offer?

BA (Hons) Creative and  Professional Writing

BA (Hons) Fine Art

BA (Hons) Humanistic Counselling Practice

BA (Hons) Humanities

With the exception of Fine Art, all our courses can be studied full-time or part-time. Fine Art can only be studied part-time.

Assessment

We don’t have exams in any of our programmes. All work is continuously assessed via innovative forms of assessment, such as presentations, reflective journals, essays and case studies.

Location

All courses take place in the Dearing Building, Jubilee Campus, with additional Fine Art studio facilities on nearby Triumph Road.

Application and interview

If you are applying to study full-time, you must apply through UCAS.

If you are applying to study part-time, you must apply directly to the School of Education. Forms are available to download from www.nottingham.ac.uk/education/undergraduate

Successful applicants will then be invited to an interview and may be asked to submit a CV and either a written piece or a portfolio of artwork.

Open days

There are opportunities to visit throughout the year. For more information, please see www.nottingham.ac.uk/opendays
