If you have a leadership role within any organisation, the chances are you are managing individuals or teams of people. 

This course equips you with the necessary skills to manage people more effectively to ensure that those who report to you are motivated and inspired by your leadership.

You will study:

  • the role of leaders

  • the challenges of managing people in multicultural and global contexts

For graduates from a wide variety of disciplines, this course will boost your credentials as a management professional in the private, public, or not-for-profit sectors, or help you get the best out of people you employ in your own business.

You will explore the latest research and challenges that managers and organisations face today. Our teaching draws on multidisciplinary theory and ideas to consider how to reconcile both business goals and individual career objectives.

The course will sharpen your understanding of the importance of having the right mix of people in your teams with the appropriate set of skills and competencies. It includes a rich mix of highly interactive lectures, workshops and real life case studies.

You will benefit from specialist expertise across the School and from the practical experience of the wider business community.

Presessional english for academic purposes

The Centre for English Language Education (CELE) runs 10 and 5 week Business and Management English language and study skills courses, designed to prepare you for masters courses in the Business School.

This course is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and gives full exemption from their level 7 Advanced Diploma in HRM.

CIPD and professional accreditation
This course meets the advanced professional standards set by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), it is accredited by CIPD and gives full exemption from their level 7 Advanced Diploma in HRM. Successful completion of this degree will give you the professional level of CIPD membership – Associate (AssocCIPD) – and the knowledge to upgrade to the higher levels of Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow.

Student membership 
The quickest and easiest way to join the CIPD is to complete their online membership form at cipd.co.uk/new-member/login.

As a student registered on the CIPD accredited MSc in Human Resource Management and Organisation at Nottingham University Business School, you will receive an email asking you to log in to the student registration portal and confirm your qualification and membership details. It takes no longer than ten minutes to join or update your membership details. 

If you are a new student member, your membership fee (valid for the duration of your degree) will be paid by Nottingham University Business School. If you are already a member, you will still need to register online to confirm your enrolment on a qualification and ensure membership recognition upon completion. After you have completed the registration process you will receive your CIPD membership pack and card within ten working days.

Progressing to professional membership 
Once you have successfully completed your Masters qualification, you will automatically gain Associate professional membership of the CIPD. Increasingly, HR professionals around the world are pursuing CIPD professional membership to achieve industry recognition.

This professional accolade signifies someone who has gone beyond the achievement of a qualification and has a recognised track record of creating a real impact in the workplace. It demonstrates that they have been benchmarked against a set of international standards for best practice in HR and can make a difference to an organisation’s strategy and its people.

As an Associate member of the CIPD you’ll be entitled to use the designation Assoc CIPD after your name, which shows employers: 

  • you have met rigorous criteria and international standards for best-practice HR

  • you are committed to continuing professional development as a practitioner. 

Upgrading to chartered membership 
Upon completion of your degree, you will have met the knowledge requirement needed to upgrade to either Chartered Member of Charted Fellow of the CIPD. During the upgrade application, you will also be asked to demonstrate that you can evidence the skills and behaviours in accordance with the membership criteria for these levels.
