Research

The Haydn Green Institute (HGI) is a leading centre of research, education and practice in the fields of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, based at Nottingham University Business School.

We are a team of students, researchers, educators and practitioners, driven by a passion for innovation. We pursue this passion through researching diverse experiences of entrepreneurship and innovation to understand how individuals and organisations can address societal and environmental challenges.

Research lies at the heart of our approach. To this end, we conduct research and knowledge-exchange activities characterised by real world relevance and impact. Colleagues are committed to engaged scholarship with, for example, work supporting women entrepreneurs and social enterprise in the UK while other colleagues are part of international collaborations advancing grass roots innovations to alleviate poverty for disadvantaged groups and communities in emerging economies.

Meanwhile, the PhD students in our HGI community are pushing the boundaries of knowledge in areas such as enterprise education and sustainable entrepreneurship. The creation of supportive enterprise ecosystems and institutions that foster inclusive innovation is a key trans-disciplinary research area.

We are also engaged in learning and teaching for students at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive levels. We adopt a pioneering approach to our learning and teaching practice, incorporating insights from research and scholarship with those from our Entrepreneurs in Residence, Professors of Practice and members of the wider community, supporting the development of entrepreneurial graduates and innovative professionals.

Advancing our international work in entrepreneurship education, our researchers are engaged in developing research insights on effective entrepreneurship education in a range of contexts. We are engaged in studying and stimulating innovation at grass roots community levels as well as collaborating with ventures applying innovation to address real-world problems.

HGI researchers are active in broadening perceptions and models of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs. Our work is committed to recognising as legitimate, entrepreneurial actions and actors beyond mainstream stereotypes and the variety of ways that these contribute to society.

In the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department, we are proud to undertake high quality research, with implications for policy and practice, that can facilitate inclusive entrepreneurship and innovation.
