Hundreds Attend Temple Fair 2020 Supported by NCI

10/2/2020

18 January saw hundreds of local residents join the fun at the 5th Temple Fair in Nottingham’s Old Market Square. This event was organised by Nottingham City Council along with the Chinese Students and Scholars Associations (CSSA) of both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, supported by Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI), Asia Business Centre, Hangzhou Culture Exhibitions Ltd and Tianjin Modern TCM Innovation Centre.

The Temple Fair stage came to life with a host of amazing China-themed performances, whilst dozens of tents and stalls gave local people the chance to experience a range of Chinese New Year activities. A wonderful dragon dance weaved through the stalls bringing colour and energy to the square on a cold and overcast day!

Despite the cold weather, all NCI stands, run by NCI teachers and volunteers, were very well attended, with activities including origami, paper cutting, and Chinese calligraphy.

The Temple Fair has become an eagerly-anticipated annual event for many. Perfectly positioned to brighten up the post-Christmas ‘lull’, it brings awareness of Chinese culture to people in a fun way. From families planning their day out to visit the fair, to shoppers passing through who can’t help their curiosity, the fair is always warmly received!
