Let’s now look at understanding the spectrum of ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’ exercise with regards to our topic.

As exercise professionals you are well aware of the physical and psychological benefits of exercise. With so many benefits it can be difficult to spot when there is a problem; when “healthy” becomes “unhealthy”.

We can instead look at it as a spectrum with plenty of behaviour in the middle of the two extremes that can be very common.

Support

Stressors (events, thoughts, things that cause stress) may drive individuals towards unhealthy behaviours and reducing stressors will help to move someone away from them. You may not be able to reduce all stressors in someone’s life but introducing support in your professional role can encourage individuals towards more healthy behaviours.
