Welcome to the Primary PGCE

We are delighted that you have accepted a place on the Primary PGCE programme at the University of Nottingham and look forward to welcoming you in the autumn term.

The first day of your course is Wednesday 27 August 2025. Please see the term dates section for important information about this.

In preparation there are a series of tasks that must be completed before the start of the course. Therefore, please read through the Essential Pre-course Tasks section carefully, and work through all tasks in the To Do List section of this website.

In addition, you may also want to:

gain further experience in a primary school setting
Begin reading the TES magazine, Schools Week or Education Guardian regularly, or listen to podcasts such as the National Association Primary Education podcast or Primary Education Voices to hear about current issues in education.
have a look at our Primary Education Network blog or our core text: Cremin, T. and Burnett, C. (Eds.).(2018). (eds) Learning to teach in the primary school. 4th Edition. Abingdon: Routledge.
try some of these suggested activities and think about how they relate to the primary curriculum.
