Everything you need to know about library services and resources if you're self-isolating
Your library loans
Your library loans will continue to automatically renew every day unless someone else requests them. If your books are requested, we will email you to let you know.
I have received an email asking me to return my library book. What can I do?
You do not need to return your library books whilst you're self-isolating. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact us by Live Chat to let us know that you are unable to return the book at present.
Return your book to our libraries after your isolation period has come to an end. We will waive any fines during the isolation period.
I have placed a Click and Collect request but I am unable to collect it.
Click and Collect items are held on the shelf for three days. For part-time students and those eligible for Enhanced Library Support this is seven days.
If you have a reservation but are unable to collect it during this time, please email email@example.com or call 0115 95 16393 to cancel your reservation.
We can provide digital scans of sections of books in our collections by email (within copyright restrictions).
Can a friend collect a book on my behalf?
You may ask a friend to collect a book from the library on your behalf, providing the following guidance is followed.
- Forward your confirmation email to your friend’s University email address – they will need this to collect the book.
- Your friend should only visit the library if they are feeling well, have no symptoms of Covid-19 and have not been asked to self-isolate.
- Your friend should follow safety measures whilst in the library including wearing a face covering and maintaining good hygiene by using hand sanitiser at the entrance
- Your friend should drop the book outside the door to your home, knock on the door and then step at least two metres back away from the door
- You and your friend should wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling the book
How can I access study materials whilst in isolation?
Unfortunately, we’re unable to post books out at the moment, but you may still be able to access the resource you need online:
- Reading list - Check the reading list for your module for online materials. Your reading list may be available through Moodle.
- Scans by email - We can scan sections of print items in our collections and send them to you by email. Scans are for personal use only and will be made within copyright restrictions.
- Finding online resources - Guidance on finding online resources including accessing ebooks, ejournals and databases through NUsearch.
- Subject guides - Our guide to the key resources for your subject area.
