Clinical Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences
Dr. Kreft studied Medicine at Erasmus University Rotterdam (Erasmus MC), The Netherlands. Alongside medical training, he completed an Honors Master of Science in Clinical Research, which included a placement at Harvard University in Boston, USA.
Pursuing a strong interest in neuroimmunology, Dr. Kreft obtained a PhD in immunogenetics of multiple sclerosis at Erasmus MC, with a research placement at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). He holds an officially registration as a Biomedical Scientific Immunologist (SMBWO, Arnhem, The Netherlands).
Following completion of specialist training in Neurology at Erasmus MC, Dr. Kreft undertook a post-CCT Senior Fellowship in Cardiff, after which he was appointed as a Consultant Neurologist. In 2024, he joined the University of Nottingham as Clinical Associate Professor in Neurology and was appointed as Honorary Consultant Neurologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. His clinical and research interests focus on neuro-inflammatory conditions and the underlying neurodegenerative mechanisms.
Dr. Kreft has received several prestigious awards in recognition of their contributions to neurological research and clinical excellence, including:

Dr. Kreft's research focuses on integrating large-scale datasets on genetic and environmental risk factors to predict long-term disease outcomes and treatment responses in multiple sclerosis (MS). His work is embedded in international collaborative studies and aims to uncover the biological mechanisms driving both neuro-inflammation and neurodegeneration. His research group employs advanced modeling strategies to better understand the onset of MS, the heterogeneity of disease progression, and to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
In addition, Dr. Kreft is an active member of the UK Taskforce on the Prevention of MS and the International Workgroup to Prevent MS. These initiatives aim to identify individuals at high risk of developing MS through multi-modal data integration, develop early intervention strategies, and assess the psychological impact of risk identification.
Dr. Kreft welcomes enquiries from undergraduate and postgraduate students at all levels interested in neuroimmunology, genetics, MS research, and data-driven approaches to neurological disease.
