Biography

I graduated Medicine at UCL in 1996, taking up Psychiatry training soon after and working as a Clinical Lecturer from 2001 - 2005 at the University of Nottingham. During this time I developed a clinical and research interest in Mood Disorders, including fMRI and clinical trials work. These interests came together later in work as a CLAHRC Fellow, leading through research to the successful implementation of what has now become the Nottingham Specialist Depression Service (with the main research paper published as Morriss et al, Lancet Psychiatry, 2016). This service has now been embedded at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS FT for more than 10 years, offering regional consultancy work and educational programmes. I continue to lead clinical developments in Mood Disorders as a Consultant, with an academic focus on translational research in Major Depression and Bipolar Disorder. For the last 5 years I have worked with NICE as part of the Guideline Development Group for Depression in Adults.
