Professor Shearer West, Vice-Chancellor and President at the University said: “Nottingham has continued to demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research and we are proud of our reputation for being one of the best universities in the country for graduate employability.

“The talent and commitment of our staff underpins this latest ranking- whether this be academic staff being cited on papers, careers teams inspiring the next generation of researchers or those improving the way in which our students live and learn.

“Our world-leading, globally connected university, continues to attract a high calibre of staff and students from around the world. I have no doubt that we offer a truly rounded university experience and this ranking is further evidence of that.”

The most recent rankings particularly emphasise Nottingham’s employer reputation which is ranked among the top 100 in the world. The University is consistently named as one of the most targeted institutions by leading graduate employers and was also named as University of the Year for Graduate Employment in the 2017 Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

The University’s academic reputation, citations per faculty and international faculty ratio were metrics which had all improved and also accounted for the strong positioning.

Ben Sowter, Research Director at QS, said: “This year’s ranking cycle has demonstrated the enduring excellence of the United Kingdom higher education sector in the face of relentlessly competitive competition from abroad. Global research output is increasing apace, with the average institution producing 12.1 per cent more publications and yielding 22.2 per cent more citations than in the previous window. Keeping pace is one thing, but staying ahead of the curve is a testament to the innovation, insight, capacity for collaboration, and thought-leadership present at UK universities.”

The QS World University Rankings have been published since 2004, taking into account academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student to faculty ratio, international faculty and international student numbers.
