Medical Physiology and Therapeutics Scholarships 2023-24

Successful applicants to the Medical Physiology and Therapeutics Year One Scholarship will receive £1,000 in year one of their course. 

Conditions of the award are as follows: 

1. The value of the award is £1,000 in year one only.  

2. Candidates will be registered on year one of the full time BSc Medical Physiology and Therapeutics course at The University of Nottingham (UK Campus). 

3. Candidates must meet the residency requirements for a UK ‘home' student. 

4. Candidates must be in receipt of all or part of the means-tested element of the student loan for living costs, and have applied for their maximum entitlement. 

5. Candidates must be prepared to submit a personal statement to show their interest in Science.  

6. Candidates in receipt of any external scholarships will not be eligible. 

7. Candidates will normally be expected to attend at least 80% of all scheduled taught classes. Failure to do so may affect eligibility for this award, or res 

When is the closing date and when will I know if I’ve been made an award? 

The closing date for submitting the application form is 28th November 2023. Applications will be looked at once the closing date has passed. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application within four weeks of the closing date. 

What is Home Student (Question 8)? 

Your student finance company (i.e. Student Finance England, Wales, Northern Ireland or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland) will decide your residency status. To be classed as a Home student you must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the three year period prior to the start of your course. Students granted refugee status and European migrant workers may also be eligible. If you are unsure of your status contact the student finance company for further information. 

What should be included in your “Supporting Statement”? 

Include a personal statement outlining your long term commitment to medical physiology and therapeutics e.g. work experience, voluntary work, involvement in extra-curricular activities (e.g. Duke of Edinburgh Awards etc), support in the community, workshops or master classes you have attended demonstrating an interest in science. Please attach additional sheets if required. You may wish to provide a reference to support this statement. Within the personal statement you may also include information about any specific financial difficulties you are experiencing and how/why these have come about. If you have supporting documentary evidence in relation to these difficulties you should include this within your application 

How to appeal 

If you are unhappy with the outcome of your application, you should initially contact the Funding & Financial Support team to discuss your concerns.

If after an explanation of the assessment you believe there has been an error or procedural inconsistency and you wish to appeal you should email the Funding Manager detailing the basis of your appeal. Please send your email to john.hudson@nottingham.ac.uk and copy in financialsupport@nottingham.ac.uk 

Appeals must be lodged within 2 weeks of the date of the email notifying you of the initial outcome. You will be contacted within 7 working days of receipt of the appeal with confirmation of the outcome of the appeal. Please note that the Funding & Financial Support Management’s decision on appeals is final.
