Biography of William George Monckton-Arundell, later Monckton, 5th Viscount Galway (1782-1834)

William George Monckton-Arundell was the eldest son of Robert Monckton-Arundell, 4th Viscount Galway, and succeeded his father in 1810.

In 1826 he changed his surname to Monckton by Royal Licence. The licence stated that younger children would use the surname Monckton, but that persons succeeding to the Viscouncy after the 4th Viscount should retain the surname Monckton-Arundell.

Cockayne's Complete Peerage states that the 5th Viscount was an accomplished topographer and antiquary.
