Successful Transnational Radical Film Cultures Conference

Description
The Transnational Radical F?ilm Cultures Conference was held on University Park Campus on 3-5 June 2019. This conference brought together 93 film scholars, filmmakers and artists from 5 continents to discuss critical issues concerning the social, cultural and political relevance of film, media and art in contemporary times.

Lord Dearing Award for Cultures, Languages and Area Studies

Congratulations to Tara Webster-Deakin (Widening Participation and Outreach Manager) who is the recipient of a Dearing Award this year in recognition of her work in supporting outreach into schools and Widening Participation in both the teaching and administrative aspects of her work in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies.

Fellowship awards for postgraduate students

Description
Congratulations to American and Canadian Studies postgraduate students Hannah Rose Murray, who has been awarded a Leverhulme postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, and Steve Gallo, who has been awarded a Fellowship at the Filson Historical Society.Well done also to Will Atkin (Cultural, Media and Visual Studies) who will take up a Leverhulme Fellowship at Nottingham in May.

PhD student publishes article on Social Media and Society

Description
Congratulations to Cultural, Media and Visual Studies PhD student Niki Cheong who has recently published an article entitled "Feeling the Chill: Bersih 2.0, State Censorship, and "Networked Affect" on Malaysian Social Media 2012–2018" in Social Media + Society (co-authored with Amelia Johns from University of Technology Sydney).
