The Department of Music enjoys a vibrant research culture. Many of the department's academic staff are internationally recognised scholars in their respective fields.

In the last REF cycle, the Department of Music was ranked 7th out of 56 UK music departments, with 100% of our impact and enviromental submissions deemed to be world-leading and internationally excellent. In addition, 49% of publications were judged to be world-leading, and the remainder were rated as internationally excellent.
