Fluid Mechanics

Understanding the flow of fluids is central to solving many problems in Science and Engineering. Fluid mechanics has been a major research area within the School of Mathematical Sciences for many years and our areas of expertise include: multiphase flow, free boundary problems, contact line dynamics, flow in porous media, non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, bio-fluid mechanics, environmental fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics.

Members of this theme use a wide range of analytical and numerical methods to understand both the fundamentals of fluid flow and the intricacies of important flow configurations, particularly those with applications in industry and biology.
