Liver MRI and MRS
Research in liver MRI and MRS at the SPMIC is divided into the strategic research themes of MRI acquisition and analysis methods development and the application of these techniques to translational studies. These translational studies are in close collaboration with the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, led by Professor Guru Aithal.
As a team we aim to develop MR methods as a tool to yield complementary information on tissue structure and function, which can be used to study disease processes and therapy.
Clinical Applications
Diagnosis and disease staging
Disease progression
Serial measures of interventions
Current Translational Studies
Compensated Cirrhosis Cohort in Nottingham (3CN)
MR for the Evaluation of Portal Hypertension (MRQuee)
Optimisation of MRE for liver disease staging (ACLAIM)
Validation of the Accuracy of Magnetic Resonance Elastography
Published Translational studies
Multi-organ assessment of compensated cirrhosis patients using quantitative magnetic resonance imaging.
Short-term changes observed in multiparametric liver MRI following therapy with direct-acting antivirals in chronic hepatitis C virus patients
Non-invasive assessment of portal hypertension using quantitative magnetic resonance imaging.
