Background:
Shah joined CGS as a PhD candidate in November 2006 and is expected to conclude his research in November 2009. His research topic is "A Design Methodology for GUI Display on Handheld Device for Mobile Navigation Application", supervised by Associate Professor Gary Priestnall and Professor Mike Jackson. Shah's main funding source is Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and The Government of Malaysia.

Current Project:
In Shah's research the main aim is to develop methods and tools that support the design and development of handheld device for geographical problems for interactive software systems. This system is designed with the support of GUI display that allows users to better manage and enjoy using the device. The resulting applications should be able for the both knowledge and non-knowledge users of mapping to perform their tasks and the surrounding environment easily. In fact, not everyone was educated and familiar with mapping and how to use it, especially by using handheld devices. Due to that, the navigation application should be able to provide a user with the capability to show or display information with or without a map interface. The way the application communicates with the user and vice versa should be studied and explored. Thus, there is a need to study a new way of presenting map and information especially for small screen display device instead of using traditional map symbols and attribute information.
