Undergraduate scholarships

Student funding varies massively and depends on the type of course you are taking, your residency status and other factors.

In the faculty we have the following scholarships:

There may be other funding you are eligible to apply for that we haven't listed, so please check the Student Services's website and always check your relevant Professional Institute Body website for new scholarships.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Undergraduate Scholarships 2018

The Faculty of Engineering is offering a prestigious scholarship opportunity to students entering courses within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2018.

For UK and EU students

Scholarships of £3,000 will be awarded in recognition of continuing academic excellence to students starting on an undergraduate honours degree programme (BEng or MEng) within Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2018.
£1,000 of the scholarship will be paid on entry and £2,000 will be paid after the summer exams in July 2019 to students who achieve a 70% average in the first year.  

Eligibility

Students must:

  • attain A level grades of A*AA or above in the subjects which count towards your offer. For excluded subjects, please see the advertised admissions criteria on our website. Equivalent performance in alternative qualifications such as IB, BTEC will also be considered^
  • progress from the University of Nottingham Foundation Year with an average of 80%

Only open to Home/EU students who apply through UCAS and firmly accept their place at the University of Nottingham.

  • ^BTEC students must achieve a minimum of distinction in all maths modules which count towards the offer 
  • The scholarship is not available to applicants who made the University of Nottingham their insurance choice. 
 
International Undergraduate Scholarships 2018

If you are an international (overseas) student starting an undergraduate honours degree programme in engineering, you could be awarded a £1,500 fee reduction in your first year of study.

To qualify for the scholarship, you will need to have applied through UCAS and have made the University of Nottingham your first (firm) choice in the UCAS application process.

If you receive the award in your first year, you may also be awarded £1,000 in your second, third and fourth years. This is conditional based on you passing the previous year (on first sit exams) with an overall average of 70% or above, and having a satisfactory attendance during the previous year as determined by the head of your department.

The scholarship will be paid automatically, you do not need to apply.

Please note that this scholarship is only available to self-funding students. Students who have received full or partial funding of the course from an external organisation or other body where a partnership agreement is in place are not eligible for the discount.

Eligibility

  • Only available to students who make the University their first (firm) choice within the UCAS application process for 2018 entry.
  • Students progressing from the foundation year in 2018 are eligible for this scholarship.
  • Students registering on degree programmes offered jointly with schools or departments outside the Faculty of Engineering are not eligible.
  • Students applying through UCAS from the University of Nottingham Malaysia foundation programme are eligible for this scholarship. Students transferring from The University of Nottingham China or Malaysia Campuses to commence their studies in the UK are not eligible for this scholarship, but are entitled to a discount. Please contact Eng-International@nottingham.ac.uk for more details. Students on exchange from these campuses are not eligible.
  • This scholarship is not available to students applying for the following courses: BArch, DipArch and MEng Architecture and Environmental Design.
  • This scholarship is open to all students with overseas fee status, regardless of nationality.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Excellence Scholarship

Scholarships of £2,500 to £15,000 towards tuition fees are available for international students achieving outstanding grades in their IB Diploma.

High Fliers Scholarship: MArch Architecture (ARB / RIBA Part 2), 2018

In recognition of academic excellence, all students from the faculty who graduate with a first class undergraduate degree will be eligible for a £1,000 fee reduction if accepted on to MArch Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2) for 2018 entry. 

Eligibility 

  • Applies to students who achieve a first class undergraduate degree from The University of Nottingham
  • Available to students who begin their studies from 2018
  • Only available in the first year of your course
  • Available to graduates from the UK, China and Malaysia campuses
  • Only available for students coming to study in the UK

High Fliers Scholarship: MArch Architecture with Collaborative Practice (ARB / RIBA Part 2), 2018

In recognition of academic excellence, all students from the faculty who graduate with a first class undergraduate degree will be eligible for a £500 fee reduction if accepted on to MArch Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2) for 2018 entry. 

Eligibility 

  • Applies to students who achieve a first class undergraduate degree from The University of Nottingham
  • Available to students who begin their studies from 2018
  • Only available in the first year of your course
  • Available to graduates from the UK, China and Malaysia campuses
  • Only available for students coming to study in the UK

Institute for Aerospace Technology Scholarship 2018

This prestigious scholarship is available to all high achieving UK and EU students registering on an undergraduate Aerospace degree programme in 2018 at the University of Nottingham. 

The £1,000 award is in recognition of academic excellence to students achieving a minimum of AAA at A level and is paid in the first term.

Eligibility

Students must:

  • attain A level grades of a minimum of AAA or above in the subjects which count towards your offer. For excluded subjects, please see the advertised admissions criteria on our website. 
  • only open to Home/EU students who apply through UCAS and firmly accept their place at the University of Nottingham (this scholarship is not available to applicants who made the University of Nottingham their insurance choice).

Engineering Alumni Scholarships 2018 entry

For UK and EU students

The £6,000 award (£1,500 per year of study) is to recognise committed students with a household income less than £35,000 in receipt of an offer for an Engineering MEng programme in 2018. 

Eligibility

Students must:

  • attain the A level conditions of their offer and be admitted on to an Engineering MEng programme
  • only open to Home/EU students who apply through UCAS and firmly accept their place at the University of Nottingham (this scholarship is not available to applicants who made the University of Nottingham their insurance choice)
  • have a household income of £35,000 or less

To apply

  • Complete the application form attached and return by the closing date of 30 April

Awards will be provisionally allocated by 30 May and paid in October when registered on the course and after verification of income and grades.

Engineering Alumni Scholarships 2019 entry

For UK and Eu Students

The £6,000 award (£1,500 per year of study) is to recognise committed students with a household income less than £42,875 hoping to enrol on an Engineering MEng programme in 2019.

Eligibility

Students must:

  • be admitted on to an Engineering MEng programme at the University of Nottingham
  • be Home/EU students who apply through UCAS and firmly accept their place at the University of Nottingham (this scholarship is not available to applicants who made the University of Nottingham their insurance)
  • have a household income of £42,875 or less

To apply

  • Complete the application form attached and return by the closing date of 17 March 2019

Awards will be provisionally allocated by the end of April and paid in October when registered on the course and after verification of income and grades.

Industry-sponsored scholarships

BP Scholarship Program

Each year BP will offer several scholarships to students from The University of Nottingham. Each scholarship is worth £3,000 per year for the duration of their degree (up to four years). The scholarship is not intended to cover fees but offer students support with the costs of resources and living.

Open to UK home, EU and overseas students.

Eligible students will be contacted by their university and sent details of how to apply. 

 
E3 (Electrical Energy Engineering) Academy Scholarships

For students starting a degree in electrical and electronic engineering. Scholars benefit from a bursary for each year of study, 8 weeks paid summer training and a contribution to their course fees.

Applications for 2018 will be accepted from 31 January 2018.

ICE QUEST Undergraduate Scholarship

If you're starting a degree in civil engineering this year, you may be able to apply for a QUEST Undergraduate Scholarship.

The 2018 scholarship will re-open in March 2018.

IMechE First Year Undergraduate Scholarship

Open to first year students who are an affiliate member of IMechE.

The closing date for applications is normally 30 June each year.

Whitworth Scholarship Awards 

Available to outstanding engineers, who have excellent academic and practical skills and the qualities needed to succeed in industry, who are wishing to embark/or have already commenced on an engineering degree-level programme of any engineering discipline.

Applicants must have pursued a vocational route in an engineering discipline for at least 2 years after having left full-time education and before entering a degree-level engineering course.

UKESF Scholarship for Electronics or Electronic Engineering 

UKESF is offering scholarships to students studying BEng or MEng degrees in electronics or electronic engineering. Scholarships are open to students in any year of their degree, except the final year.

The application window normally runs from mid-September to late October.

UKNEST Science and Engineering Scholarship 

United Kingdom Naval Engineering Science & Technology (UKNEST) is offering 12 Undergraduate Scholarships to students studying at UK universities & colleges. The Scholarship is open to students registered on any STEM subject degree. In general, UK security clearance is a pre-requisite for employment within this sector

The Scholarship is for ONE year, but students may re-apply for further funding.

The Scholarship provides:

  • Funding of £1,500
  • Mentoring from a UKNEST Member Organisation
  • UKNEST graduate buddy
  • The potential for work-placement with a UKNEST Organisation
