The University is committed to equality of choice for all employees and the Shared Parental Leave (SPL) Policy enables greater choice for parents on how to use their leave following the birth of a baby or the placement of a child. This policy is part of our wider family friendly policies in supporting a positive approach to enabling employees who are working parents to balance work and family commitments.
Parents wishing to use SPL must fulfil a number of eligibility criteria, including service length and minimum earnings. Provided eligibility is met, parents can then choose how to take SPL by curtailing maternity/adoption leave early, then taking SPL in blocks separately or together.
