Faculty of Science Outreach and Public Engagement
Schools within the Faculty of Science carry out a range of outreach activities with local schools and the community.
Faculty of Science Outreach
The Faculty Outreach and Widening Participation Officer works across the faculty to support staff and students to engage in outreach and to run faculty wide outreach projects. These projects inlcude:
- Work experience programme for Y10 students in local schools
- On campus science research and career insight visits
- Levelling Up STEM: A level tutoring and mentoring in physics and chemistry.
In addition we are happy to visit schools where we can support careers fairs and deliver science-linked activties. The activities we can deliver include:
- STEM Superstore Workshop: learners put their STEM skills into practice to run the most successful superstore. A session full of mini STEM challenges and linking to STEM careers and STEM in everyday life. (2hr duration, Up to 30 students, delivered up to 2 times in a day. Y7-9).
- You Can Too Workshop: A careers workshop focused on careers in research science and career pathways into differentSTEM jobs using the Global STEM Candoo Card Game. (1hr duration, Up to 30 students, delivered up to 5 times in a day. Y9-11).
- STEM Research Areas Aspirations Stand: Students take on the robot sampler activity to correctly match research areas with different research interests using a Makeblock Ultimate robot. This short interactive activity is perfect for STEM and careers fairs and facilitates conversations around different science disciplines, local research and careers and higher education in STEM fields. Suitable for all ages.

School outreach
Staff and students from across the faculty support activities run by the central Schools and Colleges Outreach Team.
Activities include:
- Primary – Learning Leaders programme
- Primary – Discovery Days
- Secondary - Year 10 taster events with Ambition Nottingham
- Taster lectures Year 12 summer schools
- Residential summer schools
In addition, the faculty and academic schools run subject specfic outreach activities and can accommodate some requests for work experience, talks and visits.
