Late arrival

Late arrival

Where possible, you should arrive to Nottingham in plenty of time to start your course, but we know that visa delays and other factors can sometimes cause international students to arrive late.

The final deadline for late arrival and registration will be at midday three weeks after the start date of your degree course.  For CELE presessional programmes, the deadline is midday one week after the start date of your course.

This time cannot be extended so please do not travel to the UK after this time as you may not be permitted to enter at the UK border and you cannot register on your course if you do arrive at the University.

Who to notify that you will be late

You don't need to notify our Visa and Immigration team or the UK Home Office if you are arriving after your course start date, providing that this is before the final deadline for registration. For Tier 4 students, the final deadline for registration will already be noted in the CAS issued for your Tier 4 visa application.

You should notify your school or department that you will arrive late and check on any reading materials, lectures, timetables and coursework that you have missed out on.

It is your responsibility to catch up on any work that you miss. Late arrival cannot be considered as an extenuating circumstance if you experience academic difficulties.

You should also contact your accommodation provider to let them know your expected arrival date.

University registration

To begin the registration process, you should complete  online registration before arriving at the University.

Your top priority when arriving late is to complete attendance confirmation in person at a Student Service Centre.

Bring your passport and visa to registration. Only students holding a visa (or alternative immigration status) valid for study at the University of Nottingham can be registered.

If you need to collect you biometric residence permit (BRP), you should do this before completing registration in person. The BRP will usually be collected from the Central Service Centre at Cherry Tree Lodge, University Park Campus, but please refer to instructions given on the letter issued with your 30 day entry visa.
