Undergraduate students playing the Communication Game in a Clinical Skills classroom

Building a strong foundation for a career in health sciences

Find out where your Foundation Certificate (FCert) can get you.

If you have a passion for health sciences and want to start your new career in the field, we are here to support you from the first step. Our foundation programme will prepare you for degree-level study in your field of interest, allowing you to progress onto an undergraduate degree within the School of Health Sciences at UoN:

  • BSc Midwifery
  • BSc Nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health)
  • BSc Physiotherapy
  • BSc Sport Rehabilitation
  • BSc Health Promotion and Public Health

This one-year foundation programme will help you develop your communication and scientific skills with modules in biosciences, body systems, digestion and nutrition. You’ll also consider different issues that can impact health, including health psychology, as well as professional skills required for a career in healthcare. During this time, your tutors will help you develop clinical and academic skills to prepare you for the next level of study.

Once you build a strong foundation for your undergraduate studies, you’re set for following in the footsteps of our successful graduates. Our students go on to work as healthcare professionals, consultants, researchers and project managers at the NHS or private institutions.

98.3% of undergraduates from the School of Health Sciences secured graduate level employment or further study within 15 months of graduation.*
