University is a great time to meet new people and try out things you’ve never had the chance to do before. Between your lectures and studying, you’ll have free time to explore your interests and make friends for life.
We spoke with Pharmacy student, Daniel MacDonald, to find out what he does outside of lectures and studying.
Daniel had the opportunity to study abroad at our Malaysia Campus as part of his course. This allowed him to see pharmacy from a global perspective, which really benefitted his overall knowledge of the subject.
Back in the UK, one of Daniel’s favourite things about the Pharmacy courses is how sociable they are, with loads of opportunities to get stuck in with different activities.
Daniel is part of the British Pharmaceutical Students Association and the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation. By joining these groups, Daniel has met people from across the UK and internationally who are interested in pharmacy. It’s also a great way to build connections within the industry which can benefit your career after graduation.
To get to know the other students on your course, Daniel recommends joining the Pharmacy Society (also known as PharmSoc). You get the chance to meet people from all years and courses in the School of Pharmacy and attend socials to get to know them on a personal level. PharmSoc also organises talks from different people within the industry.
He’s also been a part of PhabSoc since his first year. PhabSoc is a charity-based society where our students take young people with disabilities on exciting day trips and events. This allows the young people to have a fun day out as well as give their parents respite for the day. Trips include activities like theme parks, local attractions, zoos and aquariums.
Finally, Daniel volunteers at a food bank in his spare time to help people who otherwise couldn’t afford meals and support the local community.
