Sana is a Proposal Management Analyst at Accenture UK Limited. She tells us about her role and how her degree has helped her.
My advice to new students is don't be afraid to be bold. Speak up, question, share your views and get involved as much as you can in all aspects of your course and extracurriculars. I was on the basketball team, was part of the Pakistan Society and I was Course Representative for my degree. At Accenture, my job is end-to-end presales project management, which involves bid writing and working alongside many senior stakeholders to create win themes and client response documents.
My degree taught me how to manage and understand people, seeing them through their lens and experiences to make the most out of what they have to succeed. It also made me more confident in my abilities. My undergraduate degree was a solid foundation for my masters at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Tobi is a Competition Enforcement Officer at the Competition and Markets Authority in England. She tells us how the skills gained from her degree are helping her in her role.
I chose this degree as I was looking for a potential path into a law-based career or organisation; however, if I changed my mind, I would still be able to use this degree as it is versatile. The Competition and Markets Authority specialises in competition law, so my degree was handy in giving me a step in understanding the legal know-how of the organisation.
My degree has also helped, as I have experience in reviewing complex quantitative and qualitative data, as well as the ability to compile relevant material, which is similar to the literature review process when doing a dissertation.
Daisy is a Parliamentary Researcher in the House of Commons. She talks about her internships and how her degree has prepared her for her career.
During my degree, I completed an internship with the Fearless Youth Association and Nottinghamshire County Council, working on tackling youth knife crime in Nottingham. I also interned with the Rights Lab, where I focused on modern slavery prosecutions, or the lack thereof. These experiences provided me with valuable insights into how criminology is applied in the real world.
My degree has given me a particular expertise in crime and justice, which has been invaluable in my role as a Parliamentary Researcher. My criminology degree has equipped me with the knowledge to provide well-informed briefings on these topics, helping my MP engage in debates and policymaking with a strong evidence base.
