Discover options regrading external scholarships that you may be eligible for if studying in the Faculty of Engineering.

Scholarship information

Student funding varies massively and depends on the type of course you are taking, your residency status and other factors.

In the faculty we have the following scholarships:

  • University based scholarships
  • Industry-sponsored scholarships

There may be other funding you are eligible to apply for that we haven't listed, so please check the Student Services website and always check your relevant Professional Institute Body website for new scholarships.

The Faculty of Engineering UG Scholarship Award is funded by Alumni. In addition, before completing this application form please read the guidance notes available. Information for 2024 scholarships will be available soon.

University-based scholarships

For UK students

The award of £6,000 for MEng students and £4,500 for BEng students (£1,500 per year of study) is to recognise committed students with a household income less than £42,875 hoping to enrol on an Engineering MEng or BEng programme.

For students who have received an Arkwright Scholarship from The Smallpeice Trust

We award our Arkwright undergraduate applicants with a £1,500 University bursary, supporting your continued success on your engineering journey.

Eligibility

Students must:

  • be an Arkwright Scholar
  • firmly accept your place at the University of Nottingham (as first choice, not insurance)
  • be accepted on to an Engineering undergraduate course in 2023*

We will be in touch to confirm your bursary, after confirmation from The Smallpeice Trust and subject to your registering with us in September 2023.

Industry-sponsored scholarships

Open to first year students who are an affiliate member of IMechE.The closing date for applications is normally 30 June each year.

Available to outstanding engineers, who have excellent academic and practical skills and the qualities needed to succeed in industry, who are wishing to embark/or have already commenced on an engineering degree-level programme of any engineering discipline.

Applicants must have pursued a vocational route in an engineering discipline for at least 2 years after having left full-time education and before entering a degree-level engineering course.

The closing date for applications is normally 31 July each year.

UKESF is offering scholarships to students studying BEng or MEng degrees in electronics or electronic engineering. Scholarships are open to students in any year of their degree, except the final year.

The application window normally runs from mid-September to late October.

United Kingdom Naval Engineering Science & Technology (UKNEST) is offering 12 Undergraduate Scholarships to students studying at UK universities & colleges. The Scholarship is open to students registered on any STEM subject degree. In general, UK security clearance is a pre-requisite for employment within this sector

The Scholarship is for ONE year, but students may re-apply for further funding.

The Scholarship provides:

  • Funding of £1,500
  • Mentoring from a UKNEST Member Organisation
  • UKNEST graduate buddy
  • The potential for work-placement with a UKNEST Organisation

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Launch Scholarships are looking for passionate engineering apprentices, degree apprentices, or students facing financial challenges or who have had to overcome personal obstacles. This scholarship is available to those currently on or starting an IET accredited apprenticeship or degree course.

The scholarship provides:

  • Funding of £1,500 per year for up to four years (paid in March each year)
  • You’ll be presented with a certificate by your donor at an awards ceremony and invited to attend workshops to learn more about the IET, your donor and how to get involved with the IET
  • Free IET Student membership during your course (if not provided by your university)
  • Opportunities to network with other engineers
  • Professional Development support
  • You'll become an ambassador for the IET and inspire young people to pursue engineering studies and STEM careers

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Boost Scholarships are also looking for passionate degree apprentices or students who have achieved 70% or above at the end of their second year of an IET accredited degree course.

This scholarship provides:

  • Funding of £1,500 per year for up to two years (paid in March each year
  • You’ll be presented with a certificate by your donor at an awards ceremony and invited to attend workshops to learn more about the IET, your donor and how to get involved with the IET
  • Free IET Student membership during your course (if not provided by your university)
  • Opportunities to network with other engineers
  • Professional Development support
  • You'll become an ambassador for the IET and inspire young people to pursue engineering studies and STEM careers
