Student life at Nottingham

A day in the life of an aerospace engineering student

One of the best ways to learn about your course is to hear from our current students. Meet Ify, an Aerospace Engineering student with a Year in Industry, as he takes you through the wind tunnel lab, group workspace, campus and student halls.

From examining a heavy airdrop cargo plane with fellow students, to preparing for his year in industry interview with a friend and working on computer modelling techniques, join Ify on a typical day at UoN.

AeroSoc – our aerospace engineering society

AeroSoc is run by aerospace engineering students and is the perfect way to socialise with your course mates, make new friends and have fun. Anyone can join, you just need an interest in aviation or engineering.

From go-karting and movie nights to balls and our annual boat party, you’ll never be bored. Whether you prefer pub golf to bingo or are interested in sports teams which compete against other UoN societies – including football, netball and basketball – you’ll make friends for life.

Curious about the other societies we have to offer?

Watch Petru, as he talks about his favourite societies. He’ll give you the lowdown on all the types of societies and the best ways to spend your spare time whilst studying with us.

A place to learn, grow and belong

Here at UoN you’ll be studying a course that prepares you for your career whilst meeting other people passionate about engineering. You’ll use facilities that have real-world applications, allow for a varied learning environment, and even give you hands on experience with tools that are used in industry.

Used in several different modules, our ALSIM AL250 flight simulator has the capability of supporting bespoke flight models – something most UK university flight simulators can’t do. This makes it suitable for research projects and research-led teaching as well as taught labs.

You’ll also be able to access our flight simulator as part of extra-curricular sessions led by our aerospace students with piloting experience, either for recreation or as background to more formal training experience. It’s your chance to take to the virtual skies and pilot your own plane!

Learning that goes beyond the classroom

You could study at our campus in China, and if you’re an MEng student, you spend your third year at a Universitas 21 institution, like the University of Sydney or University of Hong Kong

This experience will introduce you to new academic environments, teaching styles, and cultural viewpoints. This will broaden your intellectual horizons and develop your critical thinking.

If you choose to study one of our courses with an industrial year, you'll get the chance to undertake a year-long work placement. This is a great way to bring your course to life in an active working environment. It'll also enable you to build your skills and experience the challenges and innovations in the field.

“I gained transferable skills including management, organisation of projects and presentation skills which could be applied in my studies as well as providing examples in graduate applications.”

Alex Hyer. Placement with Airbus.

Come and see for yourself

Join us for an on-campus experience day and get a real feel for life at Nottingham. You’ll meet your future lecturers, chat with current students, and take part in taster sessions that bring your course to life.

Can’t visit us in person? Why not take a virtual tour of our campus and get a sneak peek at student life at Nottingham.

This is more than a degree. It’s your future.

We’re here to support you, challenge you, and celebrate your success, every step of the way. Let’s start this journey together.

And remember, you can chat to our students on The Student Room or contact our friendly Student Enquiries team.
