Chemical and environmental engineering at Nottingham

We develop chemical and environmental engineers who are working to transform food, energy, chemicals and waste to minimise impacts on our air, land and water.

Here you get the facilities, support, skills and connections to revel in the real world. Make products, processes and systems that engineer things in a smarter, safer and cleaner way.

From career-advancing courses to our leading research, chemical and environmental engineers protect the world's natural resources and improve people's lives.

Student life

Chem Env – our chemical and environmental engineering society

ChemEnv Society is run by chemical and environmental engineering students and is the perfect way to socialise with your course mates, make new friends and have fun. We work closely with the department to forge a sense of community between the students, as well as share any industrial links and opportunities with our members.

From pub quizzes to balls and our annual boat party to the Lady Trent black-tie dinner, you’ll never be bored. If you love sports then you’re in luck. Our Frank Morton event is a competition and celebration between chemical and environmental engineering students from different universities. It’s the perfect event to expand your network, explore a new city and make friends for life.

A place to grow, learn and belong

You'll be based at University Park Campus, a blend of nature, history, and culture. With acres of green parkland, beautiful historic buildings, and a picturesque boating lake, it’s a truly inspiring place to live and learn.

More specifically for your course, you'll gain practical experience to be career-ready with fluid mechanics rigs, chemistry labs and more.

Learning that goes beyond the classroom

You could study at our campus in China or Malaysia, or with a partner institution in locations such as the USA, Canada, or Europe.

This experience will introduce you to new academic environments, teaching styles, and cultural viewpoints. This will broaden your intellectual horizons and develop your critical thinking.

If you choose to study one of our courses with an industrial year, you'll get the chance to undertake a year-long work placement. This is a great way to bring your course to life in an active working environment. It'll also enable you to build your skills and experience the challenges and innovations in the field.
