Student life

Our societies

University may seem daunting. It’s a time when there are lots of changes in your life, but you won’t be doing it alone. You’ll make loads of new friends, and what better way to socialise than by joining a society!

As a foundation student, you might not know what you want to study for your undergraduate degree, but our engineering societies are the perfect way to make friends and learn a little about our departments. Considering aerospace engineering? Try AeroSoc. Do you get a buzz out of electrical engineering? The EEE Soc will be the place for you. Worried about the environment? The Chem Env Soc is full of like-minded people. We have a society for practically everything you could want to try, so you’ll have no problems fitting in.

3rd year student Petru tells us about the opportunities available outside of studies.

A place to grow, learn and belong

You'll be based at our Jubilee Campus, a vibrant, welcoming community where there’s always something happening. It puts sustainability front and centre, with features including:

  • beautiful lakes that power heating and cooling systems
  • smart ventilation systems that recover heat and save energy
  • lighting that adjusts automatically to reduce waste

Specifically for your course, you'll be based at the pioneering £24m Advanced Manufacturing Building.

Learning that goes beyond the classroom

During your undergraduate degree, you could study at our campus in China or Malaysia, or with a partner institution in locations such as the USA, Canada, or Europe.

This experience will introduce you to new academic environments, teaching styles, and cultural viewpoints. This will broaden your intellectual horizons and develop your critical thinking.

If you choose to study one of our undergraduate courses with an industrial year, you'll get the chance to undertake a year-long work placement. This is a great way to bring your course to life in an active working environment. It'll also enable you to build your skills and experience the challenges and innovations in the field.

Come and see for yourself
