Student life at Nottingham

A few days in the life of a mechanical engineering student

The best way to learn about our courses is to hear from our current students. Meet Allan, who takes us through a week in his life.

Along the way to his lectures, meeting teammates for a group project and winding down with his housemates, Allan introduces you to his favourite coffee spots, scenic routes, campus facilities and accommodation. You’ll also get to see the aerospace labs and David Ross Sports Village.

Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering facilities

Here at UoN you’ll be studying a course that prepares you for your career whilst meeting other people passionate about engineering. You’ll work in a varied learning environment and even get hands-on experience with tools that are used in industry.

With significant investments in the last few years, your studies can shift up a gear thanks to our Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering facilities. You'll love learning in our state-of-the-art design studios, newly equipped 3D printing laboratory and new digital manufacturing workshop. Here, along with all of our lab spaces and industry-relevant machinery, you'll develop the skills and understanding to deal with your preferred engineering specialism and realise the future is what you make it.

Learning that goes beyond the classroom

If you choose to study one of our courses with a year abroad, you'll spend your second or third year abroad. This experience will introduce you to new academic environments, teaching styles, and cultural viewpoints. This will broaden your intellectual horizons and develop your critical thinking.

If you choose to study one of our courses with an industrial year, you'll get the chance to undertake a year-long work placement. This is a great way to bring your course to life in an active working environment. It'll also enable you to build your skills and experience the challenges and innovations in the field.
