Skills in data handling, analysis and AI are becoming highly valuable in many sectors and careers. In response, we are introducing this year-long programme to provide a route into the field for students from diverse academic backgrounds.

No. Besides a requirement for Grade 5 in GCSE level Maths, or equivalent, we assume no other prior experience.

Our first year of running will be in 26/27. This means that students taking the second year (Part I) of their standard Bachelor's programme in 25/26 will be able to take the Year in Data Analytics and AI in 26/27.

Yes, the degree title will have “year in Data Analytics and AI” included in it. For example, “BSc Hons Psychology including a Year in Data Analytics and AI”.

No. The modules for the add-on “Year in Data Analytics and AI” will appear on your transcript, but will not affect the classification of your base degree.

The portfolio is a collection of work completed across the modules. It’s designed to showcase your technical abilities and broader skills, and can be used, for example, when applying for jobs or internships to demonstrate what you’ve learned and achieved.

As the penultimate year of study, inserted between the second (Part I) and third (Part II) year of a Bachelor’s programme.

No. The “Year in Data Analytics and AI” and “Year in Computer Science” are two completely separate add-on year opportunities.

Yes, international students can add the “Year in Data Analytics and AI” to their degree course, if it is on the list of eligible courses. However, if you have a student visa you will need to apply for a new visa at the time of transferring to the course with the add-on “Year in Data Analytics and AI”.

No – student visa holders will need to apply for a new visa before starting the add-on “Year in Data Analytics and AI” (at the end of year 2). Due to the student visa requirements, the application for the new visa will need to be made from overseas. You will need to pay for the student visa application fee and immigration health surcharge. Please contact the Visa and Immigration team if you need further information regarding the impact of this course change on your student visa.
