Applying

Please apply for a place on your chosen Masters course as early as possible. We have two start dates per year, February and September. The deadline for applications is 1 July (for September) and 1 November (for February).

An online application form is available which you must complete. If you apply using the online application form you must ensure that original or certified copies of supporting documents (transcripts, confirmation of degree result, IELTS etc) are forwarded in the post to the Admissions Office at the University as soon as possible. Documentation uploaded with the application can only be used for decision-making purposes. Offers can only be made on a conditional basis until all original documentation is received.

The application process

1. Getting your application form
Please complete your application and reference forms. All information is available online. If you would prefer to receive your application form in the post, please contact the Admissions Office on +44 (0)115 951 4224.

2. Obtaining references
If you apply online, and have given your referees email addresses, they will be contacted via email by the University. If you did not supply an email address, please ask the two people who are writing a reference to complete the reference form and return it you in a sealed envelope with his/her signature across the seal.

If you apply on paper, please ask the two people who are writing a reference to complete the reference form and return it you in a sealed envelope with his/her signature across the seal.

References should include an official stamp of the University/College or other official stamp, or be on official headed paper otherwise the Admissions Office will not view them as valid. It may be worth reminding your referees of this. Emailed references are not normally acceptable.

Academic references are preferred, however, if you have been out of education for some time, relevant professional references are acceptable.

3. Sending your application form
Please post your application form, transcripts, certificate and/or references as applicable (if applying on paper make sure that you've completed all of the sections on the application form and signed it) to the following address:

The Admissions Office
The University of Nottingham
University Park
NG7 2RD
UK

or

via the online application form and send your original (or certified copies) supporting documents through the post to the above address as soon as possible. Please ensure that all documentation includes your application number.

Please do not send your application form or supporting documents to the School of English.

What happens next

It normally takes two to three weeks in total from the receipt of your application and supporting documents for a decision to be made on Masters applications. Once a decision has been made, you will be informed by the School. Your application will then be sent to the Admissions Office for formal processing of the offer. This can take up to ten working days. Once the formal offer has been processed, the Admissions Office will contact you.

Please note that applicants from non-UK universities and those whose first degree is not in a relevant subject may also be asked to supply a sample of written work. If you are required to produce any written work you will be contacted by the School of English.

If you applied on-line you can track your application at any time using the Postgraduate Admissions portal (if you sent the University a paper application you may still use this facility but it will take a little while for your application record to appear).
