“I found out I would be receiving the Alumni Scholarship Award in May 2024, and as I was right in the midst of my A-Levels, it was a huge sigh of relief. Me and my dad had always struggled financially since he retired and both he and my mum had health problems meaning they couldn’t work. This scholarship genuinely means so much to both me and my family – I was over the moon that day (even in my A-Level Tudors exam!).”
"When I found out about this scholarship, I was instantly relieved and applied, knowing it would allow my university experience to be financially stable, something that I had never experienced before.
Upon being accepted, I was utterly gratified, the knowledge that I didn't have to stress about money and could focus on my degree and passion solidifying university as an option for me."
"This scholarship took a lot of weight off the pressure of starting a new life in a new country. Receiving it inspired me to have the same positive impact on others, as it has done for me."
"This scholarship helped me believe in a life and community on campus. I’m the first person in my family to attend university!"
"Being a single mum, I believed that going to university would only be possible if I won the lottery. The funding has also relieved the stress of the cost-of-living crisis especially when I have sole responsibility for the mortgage and household bills."
"The scholarship has allowed me to join societies such as Philosophy, Fashion and Underground Music instead of needing to undertake a part time job, increasing the time that I can spend on my studies and personal enrichment. Hopefully I can become the first Doctor of Philosophy in my family!"
"This scholarship is incredibly important to me. Without it, I would not be able to afford to live without worry. When I found out I’d be receiving this scholarship, I didn’t believe it at first. It felt dream-like, and it still does."
The Faculty of Arts Undergraduate Scholarship Awards have been established thanks to the generosity of Nottingham alumni and friends of the Faculty. We are grateful to all donors, large and small, who have enabled the University to offer this support.
