School for Primary Care Research
Core primary care research and capacity development
The University of Nottingham is proud to be a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR), a national collaboration of leading academic Primary Care centres. Nottingham SPCR spans four key research hubs:
Together, these centres form a vibrant, multidisciplinary research environment focused on improving health outcomes across the lifespan.
Our teams include clinicians, researchers, and methodologists working at the forefront of primary care innovation. From world-leading trials to pioneering applied data science and epidemiology, we generate impactful evidence that shapes policy and practice. We also nurture the next generation of researchers through robust training and mentorship programmes.
Our mission is to advance inclusive, evidence-based care that meets the evolving needs of patients and communities—locally, nationally, and globally.
Wider primary care research at the University of Nottingham
Supported by our membership in the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, we collaborate across primary care, public health and social care through the NIHR Three Schools programme, drawing on a rich network of interdisciplinary expertise to tackle complex health challenges.
Key collaborators strengthening our SPCR and NIHR Three Schools work include:
- The Institute of Mental Health – advancing research at the intersection of mental health and primary care.
- Psychology research groups – exploring behavioural science and its role in improving health outcomes.
- School of Pharmacy – leading innovations in medicines optimisation, prescribing safety, and patient-centred care.
- School of Health Sciences – delivering impactful research in nursing, midwifery, and community health.
By integrating clinical, behavioural, and pharmaceutical expertise, we generate evidence that informs policy, enhances care delivery, and improves lives across diverse populations.
