Undergraduate students studying in the Monica Partridge Digital Hub

Study a subject without specific A levels

If you don't fancy continuing any of your A level subjects at university, then here is your opportunity to start something completely new.

Did you know you can study a subject at university without having studied it already at A Level?

There are many courses across the arts and humanities where you can start a subject as a beginner. Some of our students do have these subject-specific A levels, but we design many of our degrees so that the first year brings everyone up to the same level.

So if you don't fancy continuing any of your A level subjects at university, then here is your opportunity to start something completely new.

Hear from our students... Ciara

"I didn’t have the opportunity to study classical civilisation for my GCSEs or in college, so I was going into it quite blindly. I loved watching documentaries on Ancient Greece and, when I was 18, I went on holiday to Greece and just absolutely fell in love with the architecture and the art. I just knew that I had to do something to do with these cultures.

So during my gap year, on a whim, I Googled ‘how to study the ancient Greeks’ and the course at Nottingham popped up! It was perfect."
