Box of Broadcasts (BoB)
Box of Broadcasts (BoB) is a service that lets anyone who has a University username record television and radio programmes that are to be broadcast in the next seven days. In some cases, it is also possible to retrieve programmes that were broadcast in the preceding seven days. Most terrestrial freeview channels are available.
The recorded programme is available as streaming video – you play it by clicking on a link. (You don't receive a file containing the programme.)
In order to use BoB you need to log on to the service.
- Go to the home page of the BoB website
- Click on the 'Sign In' button.
- In the box below "Where Are You From?", enter Nottingham and choose University of Nottingham from the list that appears, then click the "Go to login" button.
- The next screen will ask you for your normal Nottingham details.
- If you are logging on for the first time, indicate this when asked.
Once in the site itself, you can request a programme is recorded by clicking on the Guide (in the centre of the top purple bar). Use the Search option to search for programmes in the archive.
When you record an item it will also be available to other people and you can access items requested by others. You can search for these items in the archives section.
You can make clips (short excerpts from programmes - useful for including in lectures where you may well not want to play the entire programme) and compile play lists.
The University has an Educational Recording Agency Plus (ERA+) licence that allows off-air recording of broadcasts in the UK. The ERA+ licence covers agreed off-site access, which is managed via Box of Broadcasts (see the relevant section in the ERA+ licence conditions). The ERA+ licence restricts access to recordings to staff and students of the University of Nottingham, but you may only access or use BoB in the territory of the United Kingdom.
