Histology and Sample Prep

Equipment

  • The Leica TP1020 and EG1120 tissue processor and embedding station allow for automated tissue processing  for wax histology. Tissue received by 4pm will be processed overnight and ready for collection the next working day.
  • There is a range of histology microtomes for preparation of wax sections including the Leica RM2145 and Slee cut 4060.
  • Rotary microtome for hard tissue/polymer samples (Leica 2050 supercut).
  • Leica VT1000s vibratome for fresh tissue sectioning.
  • Leica CM1900 and CM3050 cryostats for frozen tissue sectioning, ancillary tissue freezing equipment.
  • Leica DB4000B and Zeiss Axioplan light microscopes with digital image capture and analysis.

Applications

  • Processing, sectioning and staining tissue for wax histology,
  • Immunocytochemical and histochemical staining of wax/frozen/vibratome sections,
  • Sectioning of polymer/material samples for electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy etc.,
  • Sectioning of fresh tissue to locate area of interest for subsequent electron microscopy (e.g. brain) or correlative techniques, and
  • Sectioning of frozen tissue for immunofluorescence labelling.
