Registering for Graduation

When can I register?

Depending on whether you choose to attend a ceremony in May or August, registration will open as follows

  • For ceremonies taking place in May, registration opens on 15 March
  • For ceremonies taking place in August, registration opens in June

We will email you to let you know when the booking system is open.

How can I register?

We will email you again with more detailed information about the graduation ceremonies and to confirm when you will be able to register. If you have not received any emails regarding graduation so far, this means that we may not have your most recent contact details. You must update your details otherwise you will not receive the invitation to register for graduation.

Individual health requirements

If you and/or your guests have individual health requirements which would impact on where you need to sit in the hall, we will need you to advise us of this in advance of your ceremony. This may relate to wheelchair or mobility aid use, walking difficulties, anxiety and other physical and mental health issues. Temporary illnesses affecting the ability to walk and/or sit should also be flagged. Details of how and when to provide this information will be given in due course.

Name pronunciation

If you have concerns about the pronunciation of your name at graduation, you will have the opportunity to provide a phonetic spelling of your name during the registration process.

For 2020 and 2021 graduates attending ceremonies in May 2022:

March - registration and gown hire opens for the May ceremonies

April - additional guest tickets for May ceremonies will be allocated and you will be notified if you have secured the tickets you requested at the time of registration

For 2020 and 2021 graduates attending ceremonies in August 2022:

June - registration and gown hire opens for the August ceremonies

July - additional guest tickets for August ceremonies will be allocated and you will be notified if you have secured the tickets you requested at the time of registration

Guest tickets

Every graduate is guaranteed two guest tickets (providing registration is completed before the deadline). We’re also happy to say that this year for the first time, should there be capacity within your chosen ceremony, you may also have the opportunity to request additional tickets free of charge as part of your registration.

Once the registration period closes you will be notified if your request for extra tickets has been successful and how many extra tickets you have secured. Additional tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, based on date of registration.

Gown hire and photography

Anyone attending their graduation ceremony is expected to hire their gown from Ede and Ravenscroft, which produces the official University of Nottingham gowns designating the different degrees being awarded. You will be able to hire these from Tuesday 15 March.

Official photography will be available on the day from Tempest photography there is no need to book this in advance.

Your ceremony

Here’s how your day might look once you arrive at University Park:

  1. When you arrive at the campus gates you will be directed to the Graduation parking areas, which are just a short walk from the venue.
  2. You and your guests will then be guided to the registration area - here you'll be able to collect your gown and have your official photography taken.
  3. Once your ceremony doors open you will be guided to your seat by a member of our team, and your guests will be invited to make their way to the banqueting suite in East Midlands Conference Centre.
  4. The ceremony will then start and just before your name is due to be called you will be guided towards the stage.
  5. You will cross the stage and have your photo taken to capture that special moment.
  6. After the ceremony you and your guests will be welcomed into the marquee for post ceremony celebrations.
  7. No need to rush off. There will be food and drinks available to purchase, time to take lots of photos and catch up with old course mates.

Graduation brochure

A full graduation brochure featuring the names of all graduates from the Classes of 2020 and 2021 is available to download online. All graduates who attend ceremonies will also receive a brochure that includes the names of all attending graduates for the May or August ceremonies.
