This four-year course provides the broad, in-depth computer science training, with the added dimension of an international study year at one of our partner universities, currently Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, or New Zealand.

All our courses are compliant with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). You will learn about current computing practice that can be applied immediately after graduation, foundational aspects of computing that will be of lasting value as technology changes over time, and research-level topics that will play an important role in future developments.
Students will study abroad during their third year– see below for details.
In your first year you will study: Programming and Algorithms; Computer Fundamentals; Systems and Architecture; Mathematics for Computer Scientists; Database and Interfaces; Software Engineering; Programming Paradigms; and Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence.
In your second year you will study: Software Engineering Group Project; Algorithm Correctness and Efficiency; Topics in Computer Science; Operating Systems Distributed/Parallel; Languages and Representations; Human Computer Interaction; Software Quality: and Artificial Intelligence Methods, plus up to two optional modules.
Students progressing into year three of the G406 degree study an approved computer science programme at one of our partner universities, currently Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, or New Zealand. Lecture courses, laboratory classes and project work will allow you to benefit from the unique opportunities for study abroad and to gain a global perspective on computer science. Upon your return to Nottingham, you will follow year four of G404.
In your final year you will undertake an individual or group project. The rest of your course will be made up from up to eight optional modules.

English language requirements
IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
If you require additional support to take your language skills to the required level, you can attend a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education (CELE), which is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English. Successful students can progress onto their chosen degree course without taking IELTS again.

The modules we offer are inspired by the research interests of our staff and as a result may change for reasons of, for example, research developments or legislation changes. The above list is a sample of typical modules we offer, not a definitive list.
You will graduate with: an understanding of computers and computer science; specialised knowledge of the theoretical foundations of computer science and other selected topics within the discipline; experience in a variety of techniques needed to solve problems encountered in the discipline; and an understanding of the professional, legal and ethical aspects of the discipline. The MSci will allow you to engage with the cutting-edge research in computer science.
Average starting salary and career progression
In 2015, 94% of first-degree graduates in the School of Computer Science who were available for employment had secured work or further study within six months of graduation. The average starting salary was £26,574 with the highest being £42,000.*

Scholarships and bursaries
