Join together for our cost-of-living crisis alumni appeal and make sure talented students don't miss out.

Students from all backgrounds, but especially those from low-income families, are struggling as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.

The cost of rent, heating and food is increasing at an alarming rate. A quarter of students are considering whether they can afford to continue at university. Those who were thinking of applying are now wondering whether it’s a sensible option.

Even when taking out the maximum available loans, students are facing a shortfall. If they take on a part-time job, the average wage simply isn’t increasing in line with inflation.

Your support is vital in the current financial climate.

Students deserve better than this, and there is a way you can help. Your gift today will make it possible for someone to receive a university education who might not receive one otherwise.

It’s sobering to think what I’d have missed out on in my life if I’d never studied here. I certainly wonder if I’d be able to weather the storm of the current financial crisis right now if my degree hadn’t led to a decent job and career. What Nottingham gave me is priceless. I’ve got so much more out of my life because of the time I spent at this incredible place and I hope it’s the same for you.

The cost-of-living crisis is putting students at risk:

  • 45% of students are turning to parents for help
  • 27% of students have got a job of increased hours to make ends meet

You may not realise just how much your generosity can impact someone like me. Without this support, I wouldn’t have been able to afford my rent and travel, which meant I would have needed to take out loans and end up in even more debt when I leave university. Just easing that burden is like a constant sigh of relief.
