Project Description: Maddy started her PhD with at the University of Nottingham in October 2023. Her project focuses on using machine learning to predict polymer biodegradability.

Max_Winslow_Profile_Headshot
Dr. Max Winslow

Supervisor: Prof. Jonathan Hirst
Work Packages: WP4
Project Description: Max started as a postdoc at the University of Nottingham on the Prosperity Partnership where he will be using quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) techniques to explore enzymatic ring opening polymerisation.

James Pearce
Dr. James Pearce

Supervisor: Prof. Rob Stockman
Work Packages: WP1
Project Description: James is a postdoc at Prof. Rob Stockman group. He will be involved with the monomers team at Nottingham. His PhD was on reductive electrochemical generation of aryl radicals in flow at the University of Southampton.

Daniel Inglis

Supervisor: Prof. Avtar Matharu & Prof. Duncan Macquarrie
Work packages: WP1 & WP3
Project Description: 1st Year PhD student working in the Green Chemistry department at the University of York. Work involves synthesising novel monomers and polymers that are biodegradable and made from renewable feedstocks.

Kirsten Hawkins
Dr. Kirsten Hawkins

Supervisor's name: Prof. Helen Sneddon
Work packages: WP1 & WP3
Project Description: Kirsten is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of York. She is involved with the synthesis of lactone monomers for use as polymers via ring opening polymerization (ROP) the overall aim is to produce polymers which are bioderived and biodegradable where possible.

Pippy Photo
Dr. Pippy Jacob

Supervisor's name: Prof. Jonathan Hirst
Work packages: Associated with WP2 & WP5
Project Description: Pippy is an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow. Her research is aligned with WP5 and WP2. Over the course of one year, she will look at the application of machine learning for polymer biodegradability. Her PhD, from the University of Nottingham, focussed on the synthesis and application of biorenewable polymers.
