Work on the Central Building will begin in January 2024:
  • A new floor to be added at first floor level to enclose the ground floor central space, with a large, glazed roof light to its center, offering views up to the existing fabric roof.
  • The large central roof light allows plenty of natural light to penetrate the ground floor central space, and also gives visual glimpses between key spaces, and up to the fabric roof canopy above.
  • New welcome reception area with a visible connection both in and out of the building, allowing the existing reception desk to be removed, to give unobstructed views from the entrance into the heart of the building.
  • New restaurant with bar and external seating and new grab and go coffee shop with good visibility in and out of the building.
  • Replacement of the existing tensile fabric roof, to ensure continued building use for the next 20+years.

Key highlights and innovations

  • Create a strong sense of arrival at the campus and at the Central Building and give the ground floor spaces a new lease of life.
  • Maintain and enhance the building’s impact locally, both within the wider context of Nottingham city centre and within Castle Meadow Campus.
  • Large flexible space to support 200-seat banqueting use, formal presentation events, etc.
  • Large and smaller scale bookable meeting spaces.
  • Rich mix of quiet and collaborative, flexible workspaces for the local community to enjoy, with part of the space reserved for students, staff and businesses located on campus.
