German Evening Classes

Germany is often referred to as “Land der Dichter und Denker” (a country of poets and thinkers). It is also well known that a knowledge of German helps with business, science and research. It is:

  • the second most commonly used scientific language in the world
  • the second most widely spoken language in Europe
  • the number one language in Europe, in terms of the number of native speakers

Whether you want to learn German for business, pleasure or travel, our online language courses will help you to communicate in a wide range of situations and settings.

Please note classes will be held online until further notice.
 

Beginners German to Level 1

Previous knowledge required?

  • None. Aimed at complete beginners.

Day and time

  • Mondays, 6-8pm

Teaching dates

Term 1: starts week commencing 11 October 2021 and ends week commencing 13 December 2021.

Term 2: starts week commencing 24 January 2022 and ends week commencing 28 March 2022.

Level 2

Previous knowledge required?

For learners with previous basic knowledge of the language. This is the right level for you if:

  • you have done level 1 of our evening class programme or a beginners course elsewhere
  • you have completed approximately 80 hours of previous study (40 hours contact time and 40 hours personal study) 
  • or you did the language at school some time ago and feel you need a refresher

Day and time

  • Tuesdays, 6.30-8.30pm

Teaching dates

Term 1: starts week commencing 11 October 2021 and ends week commencing 13 December 2021.

Term 2: starts week commencing 24 January 2022 and ends week commencing 28 March 2022.

Level 3

Previous knowledge required?

This class is for learners with previous basic knowledge of the language. This is the right level for you if:

  • you have done level 2 of our evening class programme or equivalent
  • you have a high A1/low A2 on the CEFR
  • you have competed approximately 160 hours of previous language study (e.g. pre-GCSE or equivalent) 
  • you have a very rusty GCSE or O level

Day and time

  • Wednesdays 6.30 – 8.30pm

Teaching dates

Term 1: starts week commencing 11 October 2021 and ends week commencing 13 December 2021.

Term 2: starts week commencing 24 January 2022 and ends week commencing 28 March 2022.

Level 4

Previous knowledge required? 

For learners who have previous knowledge of the language. This is the right level for you if:

  • you have done level 3 of our Evening class programme or equivalent
  • you have a high A2 on the CEFR
  • you have completed approximately 240 hours of previous language study
  • you have a good recent GCSE

Day and time

Thursdays 6.30 – 8.30pm

Teaching dates

Term 1: starts week commencing 11 October 2021 and ends week commencing 13 December 2021.

Term 2: starts week commencing 24 January 2022 and ends week commencing 28 March 2022.

Advanced

Previous knowledge required?

This class is for learners with previous basic knowledge of the language. This is the right level for you if:

  • you have done level 4 or 5 of our evening class programme or equivalent
  • you have AS or A level
  • you have a level equivalent to B1/B2 on the CEFR

  • Mondays, 6.30-8.30pm

Term 1: starts week commencing 11 October 2021 and ends week commencing 13 December 2021.

Term 2: starts week commencing 24 January 2022 and ends week commencing 28 March 2022.
