Our next Graduate Entry Medicine open day will take place on Saturday 27 September 2025 at Royal Derby Hospital.
Talks and activities will take place from 9am-2pm, the full timetable for the day can be found below.
During your visit to the Medical School at Royal Derby Hospital, you’ll have the opportunity to meet current students and key members of the course team. You’ll also get the chance to try some practical, hands-on activities, to give you a flavour of what it’s like to study Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) with us. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, explore our facilities and see the Royal Derby Hospital Campus.
Talks and activities
Guests of prospective students are very welcome to attend the open day, however the workshop sessions taking place in the morning and afternoon are for prospective students only. There is a café on campus which guests of prospective students are welcome to wait in during these sessions.

Graduate Entry Medicine 2026 entry: studying at the University of Nottingham and how to apply Overview of the course aims and teaching programme with current information about how to apply for 2026 entry. This session will be led by the GEM Course Director and Director of Admissions.

Workshops* (activities in rotation) |
Problem based learning session An opportunity to take part in a short, simulated problem based learning (PBL) small group learning session with other prospective GEM students facilitated by a member of GEM staff. It provides an excellent insight and the chance to ask questions about one of the key parts of the weekly learning activities all GEM students engage with during the first 18 months of the degree programme
Anatomy workshop Learn more about how we teach anatomy on the GEM course. We will introduce you to a range of hands-on interactive resources used in our practical workshops, including teaching models, X-rays and 3D digital models. This session is led by members of our Anatomy teaching team who are happy to answer any questions you might have
Clinical skills demonstrations An opportunity to participate in a clinical skills session, meet staff and students, see some of our simulation equipment and ask questions about this practical aspect of the course. In clinical skills, you will learn clinical communication, physical examination, professional values and clinical reasoning
Meet the students An opportunity to meet current GEM students and ask any questions you have about studying here

*Workshop activities are taking place in rotation. All attendees will be assigned a group (A, B, C, D) and will be led to the next workshop activity by a member of staff or a student ambassador. Each workshop activity will last approximately 20 minutes.

Due to building work, visitor parking is limited. A limited number of free spaces will be available on a first come first served basis. Pay and display parking is available in car parks 7 and 8, which are closest to Royal Derby Medical School.
Blue Badge parking is available in car parks 2 and 3.
Park and ride
A free park and ride service is available for visitors, which will operate from Kingsway Boulevard (just off the Kingsway Island opposite the Tilia housing development).
