Taking on the best student athletes from across the United Kingdom, a large University of Nottingham contingent travelled the short distance to the 2025 BUCS (British University and Colleges Sport) Duathlon Championships. Duathlon is a an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format similar to triathlons, and it was a recent Triathlon Under-23 World Champion who bested the pack in Nottingham colours.

Oliver Conway emphasised his vast talents by winning gold in the Open category with a finishing time of 52 minutes and 57 seconds, beating his team mate Oliver Hitchcock to the top spot on the podium as Hitchcock finished in just over 54 minutes to claim silver.

The University of Nottingham Triathlon Club reflected on these performances by saying; "Oliver Conway took the win at BUCS Duathlon in a dominant performance breaking away on the very first run and no one could get close! A fantastic way to round off an incredible season! Oliver Hitchcock had an excellent first run and bike which put him with the lead pack coming out of T2, after some tactical pacing no one could match his final kick giving him a well deserved silver!"

The pairs phenomenal efforts also secured another title as the Open Team gold medal would be secured with the addition of Jake Whitecunas who finished in the top 15, and gave the trio the fastest accumulated time of any university at 2 hours, 41 minutes and 39 seconds.

In the Women's race, Nottingham's Isabel Price finished in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 27 seconds to secure a brilliant sixth place, whilst Imogen Sutton registered a top ten finish just over one minute later. When combined with Maddie Hughes' fantastic run, these three efforts managed to secure a silver medal with a blistering combined time of 3 hours, 12 minutes and 41 seconds!

We would like to congratulate all of our University of Nottingham representatives at the 2025 BUCS Duathlon and with four medals at this event, we look forward to more success this season.
