How do we design and manufacture the next generation of smarter, faster, and more sustainable products? Our BEng Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing equips you with the skills to turn ideas into reality.

You’ll explore advanced manufacturing, sustainable engineering, and cutting-edge industry technologies.  This hands-on course focuses on real-world problem-solving, with exciting design and project work. In your final year, you’ll work on a major project to showcase your skills.

Whether you want to work in aerospace, automotive, or renewable energy, this course prepares you for a great engineering career. You'll have access to the latest manufacturing research facilities, including robotics and 3D printing techniques, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard technologies.

Through individual and group projects, you'll develop innovative solutions that meet industry needs. Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills ensure you graduate ready to succeed in the evolving world of engineering.

Materials and Manufacturing

This module introduces you to the properties of materials, selected failure mechanisms and core manufacturing methods used in engineering applications. This understanding of both materials and the manufacturing techniques used to process these materials is essential to produce effective and commercially viable products and to enable engineering components to operate as required.


Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics 1

This module covers the fundamental concepts and principles of thermofluids and their applications to engineering problems. You will develop an understanding of topics including fundamental fluid properties and the equation of state, first and second laws of thermodynamics and heat engine analysis, and principles in fluid mechanics, continuity, Euler equation, turbulence and Bernoulli equation.


Engineering Design Project

In this yearlong module you'll gain a deeper understanding of engineering design principles using practical project work. You'll learn CAD from the ground up, and by the end of the module you'll be well versed in the software.

Further you'll undertake practical workshops, where you'll learn how to use fundamental engineering machinery, which forms the basis of more advanced techniques you'll learn in higher level modules.

  • Engineering drawing CAD solid modelling and drawing generation  
  • Machine elements Group Design Project with Integrated Individual Element  
  • Machine shop practical training 

Statics and Dynamics

This module introduces you to the analysis of mechanical systems in statics and dynamics contexts. Through a structured approach, you will develop core analytical skills by exploring topics including force equilibrium, stress and strain analysis, kinematics, conservation laws and mechanical drive systems. The emphasis is placed on developing skills to apply these concepts to simplified engineering scenarios, providing a solid foundation for further study.


Mathematics and Programming

This module delivers mathematics teaching alongside core programming principles. You will develop a strong understanding of mathematics required for a range of engineering problems, including solving first- and second-order differential equations, the algebra of complex numbers, and solving systems of equations with matrix techniques and vectors. You will also be introduced to writing and understanding computer programs, including the use of variables and data types, loops, functions and arrays, and data plotting and simple computer graphics.


Professional Practice

An introduction to a variety of models and exemplars to support you in understanding and articulating your personal learning style and negotiation of the journey from new undergraduate to BSc Accountancy graduand.

This is the final module undertaken in the degree. It emphasises the employability skills and professional development aspects of the programme and also requires you to reflect upon the integrated placement segments of the programme.
