The Faculty of Engineering seeks to benefit society, industry and academia by producing world-leading research in challenging areas and sharing this knowledge to solve global issues.
The faculty is internationally renowned for its high quality research, finishing 3rd for Research Power in Engineering during the Research Excellence Framework 2014. We focus our research efforts on multidisciplinary priority areas to tackle global challenges, including:

- safeguarding water, energy, food and cyberspace
- developing sustainable and resilient cities

Cross-faculty research centres and institutes
As well as encompassing a wide range of engineering disciplines, the faculty has also established a number of pioneering research centres and institutes at the interface of engineering and science.
