Welcome to new international students

This section contains specific information for new international students.

The International Office provides unique support for EU and international students, offering guidance and advice, drop in sessions and social events.

You can find information below on how to prepare for coming to the UK, what to do on arrival and the type of support available to you once you are here.

Preparation and arrival

Moving to a new country is incredibly exciting but also requires a lot of preparation.

Our pre-departure checklist covers the important things to do before you leave home.

We also have some information on what to carry with you in your hand luggage and what to expect when you arrive in the UK.

Getting to Nottingham

int-prog

The International Office offers a free coach pick-up service from London Heathrow Airport on the first day of the Welcome Programme. Places can be reserved online. Please note, a £25 per head baggage fee applies.

For students arriving in the UK on a different date or at a different airport we have a guide covering all aspects of travelling to Nottingham independently.

Welcome Programme

int-wel-prog

The Welcome Programme is a week of fun activities and information sessions for new international students of all study levels, running in September each year.

The programme offers the chance to get to know the campuses, meet fellow students and complete essential processes, such as registration and opening a bank account, before Week One begins.

Your first few days

int-days

For most people, arriving at university is exciting but can also be quite a daunting experience. To help make your first week go smoothly we have a list of tips from our Support Team and current students.

So make sure you pick up some biscuits, search out those much needed text books second-hand and drop in to the Study Abroad Fair in November.

Settling in

int-settling

Feeling homesick is normal for most students. Try to make the most of your experience here by getting involved in clubs and societies at your Students’ Union, exploring all that the city has to offer and finding out what the Careers and Employability Service can offer you while you study.

You can also take advantage of a wide range of facilities and support networks that are available to you.

Support
