- Who can use the Free Will Service?
Anyone resident in the UK can use the service through our offer. If you’re based in England or Wales you can do it online, over the phone or in person. For Scotland and Northern Ireland you’ll need to call to make it either over the phone or arrange to do so in person.
- What do I need to make use of the offer?

- What types of will can I make using the offer?
Simple or Mirror Wills are included in the offer. For most people this covers all your key assets and wishes. If you’d like a more complicated will, talk either to a solicitor or call Octopus Legacy on 0800 773 4014 who can explain your options. You can still get the cost of a simple will off the overall total by quoting University of Nottingham. All costs associated with a more complicated will, if you choose to proceed with Octopus Legacy will be explained up front.
- What if I want a more complicated will?
If you’d like a more complicated will, talk either to a solicitor or call Octopus Legacy on 0800 773 4014 who can explain your options. You can still get the cost of a simple will off the overall total by quoting University of Nottingham. All costs associated with a more complicated will, if you choose to proceed with Octopus Legacy will be explained up front.
- What if I’d prefer to speak to someone and not do it online?
Of course you can make a will over the phone or even in person. Call 0800 773 4014 to arrange a meeting, or to write your will. Just ensure you mention the University of Nottingham to get it for free.
- Who can’t use the service?
Unfortunately anyone based overseas won’t be able to make use of this offer due to conflicting legislation. Additionally if for any reason you need assistance writing your will as you cannot do so independently, we would suggest you speak to a solicitor.
- What information will I need to hand when I make my will?
It’s sensible to have a good idea of your assets and your wishes before you start your will. Consider who you want to benefit, including family, friends and charities, who you’d like your executor to be, and what assets you think you’ll have to give. However, the system will guide you through the process step by step, and you can pause and return at any time if you need to take more time to consider your choices.
If it’s free why do I need to enter my card details?
Your will is completely free through this process, however in order to complete it the system will ask for your card details. This is necessary to complete your will but be assured no money will be taken.
You are automatically signed up to the Octopus will update service which allows you to update your will as much as you like. This is free for your first year but then auto renews at £10 a year which your card will be used for.
You are able to immediately cancel this to ensure no money is taken and full information on how to do so can be found on the Octopus website. You can also always contact the Octopus team to discuss this on 0800 773 4014.
- What if I start my will now but don’t have time to finish it?
That’s not a problem. We know it’s a personal process and can take time and we don’t want you to feel rushed. You can pause and return to your will at any time.
