The Virtual & Immersive Production Studio

The Virtual & Immersive Production Studio (VIP Studio) is a specialist production facility to incubate innovation in film, TV and performance arts production and audience engagement. The facility is located in Studio 11 on Kings Meadow Campus.

The VIP Studio enables collaborative research and experimentation through to commercialisation, drawing on multidisciplinary collaborations across Arts, Engineering and Computer Science. As the VIP Studio develops, we aim to support future inclusive community outreach programmes that facilitate skills and talent development - contributing to the growth of a creative and digital talent and business cluster in Nottingham and addressing a national need for new skills in screen industries.

VIP Studio’s range of cutting-edge performance capture facilities include:

  • 16 camera Vicon motion capture system
  • 10 camera Scatter Volumetric Capture system
  • Faceware Mark IV facial performance capture system
  • Three Teslasuit motion capture and haptic feedback suits
  • State of the art Varjo XR3 mixed reality headset
  • 15meta quest 2 headsets
  • Suite of high performance projectors
  • Industry standard movie cameras and lighting

Fully featured recording and playback system for stereo, binaural and ambisonic audio. 

This equipment is set in a large acoustically treated studio including a fixed chromakey suite.

VIP Studio Residency Opportunities

Our programme of residency opportunities will be launched in May 2023 which will run until April 2024.

We will be actively seeking researchers and artists to come and work collaboratively with us over a series of national and international residencies, for anyone interested in learning more about the opportunities available.
